Name: Mrs. Cheri Beuving Tussey
Title: 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade Teacher
Cheri Beuving Tussey was born and raised in Redwood Valley. She attended Deep Valley from Kindergarten through 12th grade and was in the first high school graduating class in 1998.
After high school she attended Simpson University, UNCW Wilmington, and finally earned her BA in Liberal Studies from the University of Massachusetts- Boston.
Since then she has used her love of teaching to educate her own five children, who are now 10th grade, 8th grade, 4th grade, 2nd grade and Preschool. She also teaches children’s church and directs the Cubbies program at Redwood Valley Community Church. Cheri has always dreamed of teaching at Deep Valley and so is delighted to be on staff doing what she loves at the school that she loves.
Name: Luayne Wright
Title: Kindergarten Teacher
Luayne was born and raised in Ukiah in a family full of teachers. She is very excited to be returning to DVCS as the Kindergarten teacher!! It's been her idea of a dream job since her kids attended Kindergarten at DVCS with Christie Brandt.
Luayne received her Bachelor's degree from UC Davis, her Masters from CSU Sacramento and her multiple-subjects teaching credential from Dominican. She says she was blessed to raise three high-energy, lovely children - who are now launched into adulthood!
Her teaching experience includes teaching pre-school and Kindergarten at New Life Pre-School in Ukiah, four years teaching Kindergarten at DVCS and most recently working at LaVida Charter School and Tree of Life Charter School.
She is passionately convinced of the necessity of a Christian education based on a firm foundation in Scripture and the need to help our children develop a Biblical worldview with hearts sensitive to the Lord. What better time to start than Kindergarten!! She is excited to be part of this re-generation of DVCS.
Name: Kendra Cueyo
Title: Kindergarten Teacher
Kendra is a Ukiah native, living here with her husband and three young children. In high school she made a goal to become bilingual, as she would hope to later move to Mexico. She attended CSU, Chico, obtaining a B.A. in Sociology, as well as taking advanced Spanish grammar, literature, and speech/debate courses, increasing her command of the language.
Upon graduating college, Kendra obtained a TESL certificate and taught English at Shekinah Bible Institute in Chiapas, Mx. Over the span of five years in Mexico, she taught preschool and tutoring programs in a domestic violence shelter, then served in ministry with Gloria World Mission--church planting, translating, developing children's programs, teaching English, and working/living in a group home alongside her husband, Jose Luis. The Cueyo family has been back in Ukiah four years, where they attend Rey de Reyes Church.
She works as a Patient Advocate for non-English speaking patients at the Center for Life Choices and has worked translating at Ukiah Valley Medical Center. Kendra is excited to teach the Spanish enrichment class to our kindergarteners, hoping to transmit her love of the language to the kids. Learning a language can be fun! She will introduce Spanish through songs, games, stories, and call/recall activities. She hopes this year will be the starting point for the kids to pursue the Spanish language.
Name: Lacy Tucker
Title: Preschool Director
Lacy Tucker is a Mendocino County native and has earned her early childhood education teaching certificate from Mendocino College. She has ten years’ experience teaching in several local preschools in the area.
She is passionate about creating a preschool program that strives to develop the whole child through play and academics with an emphasis on developing Christian character qualities. She is enthusiastic in loving children and wants to share her love for Jesus with them.
Name: Kelsey Rose
Title: Music Teacher
Kelsey Rose is a Willits native and graduated from Willits High School. She began her college education at Mendocino College. She had a fervent desire to complete her education at a Christian institution and she transferred to Simpson University where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance.
In addition to her love for music, her passions include art, nature and being with friends and family. She loves the Lord and treasures her two sons. She feels it is a special privilege to guide, educate and love the students at DVCS.
Name: Sandy Peters
Title: Administrator/1st Grade Teacher
Sandy Peters was born in San Jose and attended Chico State University where she received her teaching credential. She moved with her husband Tom to Willits in 1986 from the Grass Valley area where she had been teaching in Auburn and Nevada City.
She taught at Deep Valley Christian School from 1995 to 1999 when her two sons attended DVCS. She retired from Mendocino County Office of Education in 2016, and she is excited to use her varied teaching experience and administration skills to help DVCS offer a Christ-centered educational opportunity for our area. She is particularly happy to work with our dedicated staff members who love the Lord.
